The top business selected by the panel of local LGBTQ+ advocates and business leaders gets a $5,000 grant, 2nd place a $2,500 grant, and three more businesses to get $1,000 each. 30 businesses are in the running, with the public vote meant to whittle down the finalist pool to select the winners. The MLSE KickStart program teaches soccer skills to children aged 6 to 12, while providing them with valuable self-esteem, fair play and leadership. In fact, voting is open now for the final round of the current initiative, with the public asked to vote for the beneficiaries of the grants from Suncrest Bank. It’s Pride Month, and in honor of that Sacramento Republic FC are doing the latest iteration of their Kickstart grant program, this one to highlight and benefit LGBTQ+-owned local small businesses.
